Frequently asked questions

Will I still be able to select or search text after compressing?
Often no. To shrink the file, the compressor may rasterise each page into an image — once that happens, text in the compressed PDF can't be selected, searched, or copied. If selectable text matters more than file size, use a higher quality level or skip compression entirely.
How small will my file get?
It depends on what's inside. Image-heavy PDFs often shrink by 80–95% at the Low setting. PDFs that are mostly text shrink less, because there's less to compress.
Can I set an exact target size in KB?
Not here. Real-world PDFs vary too much for an exact target to be honest — we'd rather show you the actual result than promise a number we can't reliably hit. Pick Low for the smallest file, then check the result.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with WebAssembly. The PDF never leaves your device.
Is there a file size limit?
Not from us. The practical limit is your device's available memory. Modern laptops handle PDFs of several hundred megabytes.
